Features of Different pigments

Colorant

Pigment characteristics: Pigments are colorants that cannot be dissolved in ordinary solvents. Therefore, to obtain the desired coloring properties, mechanical heating and massage are required to uniformly disperse the pigments in the plastic.

Pigment classification: According to the structure pigment can be divided into organic pigments and inorganic pigments.

Inorganic pigmentation
Advantages: good thermal stability, very good weather resistance, excellent light stability, low price, and excellent dispersion performance. For example: titanium dioxide, carbon black, etc.

Titanium dioxide
Titanium dioxide is divided into rutile type and anatase type. The rutile type titanium dioxide has high refractive index, high shear power, stability, and good weather resistance. If the titanium dioxide is not dispersed during the original factory load, a large number of black spots are produced during the color matching process. It belongs to the state of dispersal and is not exposed. Therefore, it is necessary to use a dispersant for dispersion processing before use. On entering the market, such materials can be used directly. It is mainly used to cover resin transmission and increase the whiteness.

Organic pigment

Advantages: high toning strength, bright color, complete chromatography, relatively small density, and small addition.

Disadvantages: heat resistance, weather resistance and shear power are not as good as inorganic pigments, poor dispersion effect, poor transparency compared to dyes, and higher prices.

Mainly used in: POM, PE, PP, TPU, TPE and other crystalline materials and some bright products (dark colors cannot reach bright color products).

Dyes

Advantages: Dyes are organic compounds that can be used in most colored solvents and plastics. The advantages are low density, high toning strength, and good transparency.

Disadvantages: However, its overall molecular structure is small, and it is easy to migrate (colored materials) when colored. The price is more expensive than inorganic, and some prices are close to the price of organic pigments.

It is also known as pearlescent mica titanium pigment, pearl pigment or mica powder pigment, is a mica wafer coated with titanium dioxide. By different color, it can be divided into three types: silver-white pearlescent pigments, rainbow pearlescent pigments, and colored pearlescent pigments.
